Notice: The Informal Meeting of the Interior Ministers
The topic of negotiations, led by the Vice-Prime Minister and the Minister of Interior of the Slovak Republic Robert Kaliňák, will be migration and its sustainable solutions. The ministers will also discuss the issues related to the protection of borders and the Schengen area. The informal meeting will take place in the presence of the Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, Dimitris Avramopoulos.
A press conference will be held after the close of the negotiations on Thursday, 7 July at 15:15 at the Press Centre (Reduta Building, E. Suchoň 1 Square) in the presence of the Minister of Interior of the Slovak Republic, Robert Kaliňák and the EU Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos.
The sustainable migration policy is one of the priorities of the historically first Slovak Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The current migration crisis puts the external borders of the Union and the Member States´ asylum systems under enormous pressure. Therefore, it is the ambition of the Slovak Presidency to direct the Union towards a sustainable migration and asylum policy.
