Notice: Slovak PM Robert Fico and Social Minister Ján Richter to participate in a Tripartite Social Summit in Brussels
A Tripartite Social Summit (TSS) is a meeting which provides a forum for discussion between the highest representatives of the EU institutions and the representatives of social partners. The summit is part of cross-industry dialogue and always takes place before the March and October European Council meetings. The October summit will be held on 19 October and the Slovak Presidency will be represented by the Slovak Prime Minister, Robert Fico, and the Minister for Labour, Social Affairs and Family, Ján Richter.
The summit will involve the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, the Vice-President for the Euro and Social Dialogue, Valdis Dombrovskis, the Commissioner for Employment, Marianne Thyssen, the Maltese Minister for Labour, Evarist Bartolo, and the Estonian Minister for Labour, Margus Tsahkna. Ten employers’ representatives and ten trade union representatives will also participate on behalf of social partners.
A major theme of the negotiations will be solutions to common European challenges: growth and job creation and ensuring justice. The summit participants will also deal with major challenges for the European Semester 2017, exchange their experiences regarding integration of migrants on the labour market and highlight the role of social partners in implementation of the New Skills Agenda.
The press conference will be held on 19 October 2016 at 17.00 in the main press room of the Justus Lipsius building.
