Notice: Gabriela Matečná to chair Agriculture and Fisheries Council

On Monday 18 July, Minister of Agriculture and Rural development will chair the Agriculture and Fisheries Council.

As a most important highlight of this Council, Commissioner Hogan is expected to provide a brief update on the market situation, notably in the dairy, pigmeat and fruit and vegetables sectors and to unveil a new package of measures, including with a financial component.

The agenda also includes the Slovak presidency work programme on agriculture and fisheries. It will be followed by the information on the outcome of the International Experts´ Conference "Strengthening of the farmers´ position in the food supply chain" held in Bratislava on 30 June and 1 July.

Commissioner Hogan will present the regular update on international agricultural trade issues. There are important issues at stake for European agriculture in the ongoing trade negotiations with third countries.

Following the presentation by Commissioner Hogan of the greening review and his proposals for greening simplification, delegations will have the possibility to exchange views on the outcomes of the review and discuss whether these orientations correspond to the simplification priorities for greening, as set out in the Council conclusions of May 2015.

Under the any other business agenda, the Council will be informed about:

  • drought and its impact on arable crops by Poland
  • serious fires which broke out in Cyprus at the end of June by Cyprus
  • prohibition of the potassium phosphonates for plant protection against mildews and its negative impact for the organic sector by Czech Republic
  • rice imports from EBA countries by Italy
  • lumpy skin disease by Austria

For more details, see the background note

A press conference will be held at the end of the meeting (at around 19.25).
